Options for Tuning Your Scooter

There are several ways to tune your scooter. The option that best suits your scooter depends on several factors, such as the type of scooter (Euro2, Euro4 or Euro5), the brand, model, year of manufacture, CDI, ECU or Speedconverter

Which System Does Your Scooter Use?

Before you make a choice, it's important to know which system your scooter uses. This could include one of the following:

  • long-term contract,

  • ECU

  • Speed Converter

  • PowerCommander

In addition, it is good to determine whether you want a scooter  want to perform with or without remote control

Explanation of CDI systems (Euro2 to December 2017)

We start with the explanation of the CDI systemsThese fall under the Euro2 scooters and have been applied to models made until December 2017.

All scooters have a 12v electrical installation. On scooters that use a carburetor, the ignition is controlled by a CDI (capacitive discharge ignition).

The CDI is an electrical component that ensures combustion occurs at the correct time. In 4-stroke scooters, the CDI is responsible for, among other things, limiting the throttle. By replacing this component with a faster one, the speed can be increased. They are also equipped with a remote control so you can switch between the original speed and, if necessary, a higher speed. The CDIs shown in the images above are suitable for (AC) alternating current scooters. Almost all Chinese EURO2 scooters operate on alternating current.

There are CDIs that work with alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC). It is important to carefully check which of the 2 is suitable for your scooter.

If you place an AC CDI in a DC scooter, this will lead to a blown fuse or the CDI burning out. So it is important to order the correct type.

AC CDI (Alternating current)

Alternating current/AC CDIs are used in all Chinese scooters with a GY6 engine with a pulse generator/speed sensor in the inside of the crankcase/kickstart lid. These scooters have been released under hundreds of different names, but almost all come from China. In China they have several factories, Znen, Benzhou, TYM, Riya and Baotian are some of them. In the red circle below you see the speed sensor that measures the revolutions of the flywheel and transmits it to the CDI. At the yellow circle, the sensor cable comes out of the crankcase cover, after which it will continue to the CDI via the wiring harness.

DC CDI (Direct Current)

Direct current/DC CDIs can be found in scooters with a GY6 engine from brands such as Kymco, Sym, Peugeot and Beeline. These scooters are limited both mechanically and electrically, across the board (from 0 km/h to top speed).

This is the reason why they accelerate less quickly than a scooter with an alternating current CDI with pulse generator. These scooters also have a vario ring in the variomatic clutch, so they cannot go faster than 35 km per hour. Scooters were equipped with CDIs under the EURO2017 standard until December 2, and in January 2018 the scooters were required to obtain the EURO4 environmental standard.

Information about raising with ECU or/and Speed converter after January 1, 2018 EURO4 (tuning kits)

Models manufactured after January 1, 2018, must comply with the EURO4 standard. These scooters, equipped with a fuel-injection engine, no longer use a CDI but instead operate with an ECU (Engine Control Unit). This is also considered the brain of a scooter. The ECU controls, among other things, the ignition and fuel injection. An ECU can be infinitely modified by software. This type of tuning is also called chip tuning.

As a result, scooters subsequently had to be equipped with computers to meet environmental requirements. We call the abbreviation of this computer ECU.

There are a number of different systems such as the Dellorto ECU system, the Rongmao EFI full-injection system and the Delphi EFI full-injection system. After January 2021, the Motion EFI system was added for EURO5 environmental standard models.

Dellorto ECU

Dellorto ecu

Dellorto ecu

The program Dellorto system You'll find it in AGM and BTC scooters from 2018 and 2019. Brands like Sym, Kymco, and Peugeot also use this system. The Dellorto system isn't actually an injection scooter, but its electric carburetor does meet the EURO 4 standard. The system is called the Dellorto ECS, which stands for Electronic Carburetor System. Dellorto has discontinued the original ECU, but we still have a few available. While supplies last, they're gone.

Rongmao and Delphi EFI

Senzo and La Souris models almost all use it Rongmao EFI full-injection system, which works much better than the Dellorto system.

Since March 2020, AGM, BTC and GTS have also switched to the EFI full injection system, but from the brand Delphi. These scooters can be recognized by the red EFI stickers on the side of the scooter.

Information about: performing via Speed converters performance sets with remote control euro4 and euro5 for many brands in China Scooters. Also making adapters possible for mounting on different brands.

China scooter parts has developed a unique product: A speed converter which works together with the original ECU from Dellorto, Rongmao, Delphi and Motion. This is a unique product that works completely wirelessly. Using a remote control you can easily switch between the original speed, 45 km/h or unlimited.

The original ECU must be present for correct operation. If the ECU software has been moderately overwritten, the speed converter will not be able to limit it to the original speed, for example 25 km/h.

These speed converters work together with the original ECU. So you only have to purchase the speed converter. Bee  Dellorto  models you also have a smooth one variobus required.

We supply these free of charge at Chinascooter parts. Each brand also has a different connection, which is why we supply various adapters with the speed converters free of charge. This allows us to easily install the speed converter on any scooter. We have various installation videos for our products in the webshop. Each article states which adapter or smooth Variobus your scooter needs.

BTC Riva/Felice & AGM VX50 EURO5 SCOOTERS, 2021 to present tuning.

In 2021, the government has decided that scooters may emit even less emissions and that EURO4 scooters may no longer be sold. AGM and BTC started with the Dellorto ECS system in 2018, which was very disappointing in terms of reliability. In 2020 they made the switch from the Delphi full-injection system. This time they made the right choice, the Delphi EURO4 system was a relief compared to the Dellorto ECS EURO4.Speed converter euro5 EFI with remote control

But in The Hague, the government was already working on making the EURO5 scooter mandatory in 2021. The Delphi ECU had to make way for a successor. The MOTION full-injection system, unknown to us, was introduced for the EURO5 models 2021. Fortunately, the MOTION full-injection system turned out to be just as reliable as the DELPHI. We only ran into a problem, our speed converters worked on all brands of ECUs that had been released to date. But then MOTION came into play, and they didn't want to play along. We then had a speed converter made especially for the MOTION ECU, in orange.
