🔧 Replace an acid battery in 10 easy steps
🛑 Safety first
-
Turn the ignition OFF.
-
Remove the key from the ignition.
-
Make sure the scooter is on the stand.
-
Never work with a metal key on + and – at the same time (short circuit!).
-
It is best to wear gloves; batteries may contain acid residue.
📍 Where is the battery usually located?
In Chinese scooters the battery is in one of these three places:
-
Under the foot plate (most common)
-
Under the saddle
-
Behind the front panel by the legs
You usually see a rectangular flap with screws.
🧰 What do you need?
-
Phillips screwdriver
-
8mm or 10mm socket wrench (usually 10mm for clamps)
-
New battery with the same size and number of Ah
-
Possibly a trickle charger to charge the new battery
(I.e. Step-by-step plan for replacing the battery
1. Open the battery compartment
Unscrew the cover where the battery is located.
2. First disconnect the MIN (-)
This is usually the black cable.
👉 This prevents short circuits.
3. Then release the PLUS (+)
Usually the red cable.
4. Remove the old battery
Be careful that it may leak or have acid residue.
5. Compare the new battery
-
Same size?
-
Same Ah (e.g. 4Ah, 5Ah, 7Ah)?
-
Same polarity (plus right/left)?
-
Is it a acid battery → does it still need to be filled/activated?
(Some are delivered dry.)
6. Place the new battery in the compartment
Make sure it is securely clamped and cannot move.
7. First connect the PLUS (+)
Red cable → + pole
Tighten firmly, but not so hard that you break the clamp.
8. Then connect the MIN (-)
Black cable → – pole
9. Check that everything is secure
Cables must not hang loosely or come into contact with sharp edges.
10. Screw the battery cover back on
Then test the scooter:
✔️ starter motor
✔️ lighting
✔️ dashboard
✔️ turn signals
If everything works → done!
❗ Common problems
Scooter still won't start?
-
New battery is not fully charged → use a trickle charger for a while.
-
Starter relay defective.
-
Poor ground cable contact.
-
Dynamo/charging coil not charging.
-
Starter motor worn out.
Did you see sparks when connecting?
Small spark when connecting + is normal (current in system).
Large spark → cables or ignition was still on.

Great battery for my scooter
Good battery, just a shame that you have to put the acid in yourself and still have to charge it.
